Psychocultural Capital

Primary Bond:the myth”—“We are persons of color because...” “We are Black because…” “We are Jewish because…” “We are American because…”

Secondary Bond:  Experiences, rituals, foods, music, holidays.

Tertiary Bond: Resources (financial, natural, intellectual, industrial, technological)

(World Bank) “Social Capital refers to the norms and networks that enable collective action. It encompasses institutions, relationships, and customs that shape the quality and quantity of a society's social interactions. Increasing evidence shows that social capital is critical for societies to prosper economically and for development to be sustainable. Social capital, when enhanced in a positive manner, can improve project effectiveness and sustainability by building the community’s capacity to work together to address their common needs, fostering greater inclusion and cohesion, and increasing transparency and accountability.”

Psychocultural Capital can be looked as the clinical aspect of social.  It is the resources which  individuals and communities use to make strong choices (as opposed to weak choices, - see Vaya Humanity Services (VHS)

Community Mind Health: While we tend to focus on the secondary and tertiary bonds in assessing and developing community strengths, for many communities is it the primary bond, master identity, that is faulty.  Approaching this from a motivation science point, the master identity should be one that allows the individual and community to function in cell-I.  Ideally, this identity should be positive, strong, and internal.  Some identities are identities of oppression, and therefore communities build around these identities have the intrinsic challenge where the master identity is not stronger than the psychological/social burden accompanied by these identities. See “Black Male Project” and “Korconnections.”

HCP is a technology that can strengthen psychocultural bonds such that they become stronger than the challenges facing the individuals in the community by strengthening societal institutions in their clinical functions .  This is building community mind health.
